Born on July 25, 1957 in Inkouélé (Plateaux). Mr. Gakosso entered the seminary of Makoua at the age of 12, then went to the Patrice Lumumba high school in Brazzaville.

Mr. Gakosso went to study in the USSR and obtained a master's degree and a post-graduate degree in journalism from the University of Leningrad in 1983. He then entered the University of Paris II where he wrote a thesis on journalism and culture: a contribution to the history of the French-language cultural press in Black Africa, from its origins to independence, 1927-1960, and obtained a doctorate in information and communication science with honors in 1986.

  1. Jean-Claude Gakosso became a teacher-researcher at the University Marien NGouabi in 1997, where he teaches courses in journalism, and was promoted to lecturer in 2013 by CAMES.

From 1991, Mr. Gakosso became "chargé de mission" for President Denis Sassou-Nguesso. Then from 1997 to 2002, Mr. Gakosso became special advisor to the President and head of the Department of Communication, Posts and Telecommunications. During this period, he played the role of emissary and met with foreign heads of state on behalf of the President, and also signed cultural cooperation agreements with other countries (South Africa, China). He also accompanied President Denis Sassou-Nguesso on several of his official trips, and wrote some of his speeches.

In 2002, Mr. Gakosso was appointed to head the Ministry of Culture and Arts and Tourism (which became the Ministry of Culture and Arts in 2007). In the 2007 legislative elections, Mr. Gakosso was elected deputy (PCT) for the Plateaux region.

In August 2015, Mr. Jean-Claude Gakosso was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Congolese Abroad, succeeding Mr. Basile Ikouébé.
