Legalization of documents

The Embassy of the Republic of Congo in Canada issues various certificates and attestations to Congolese citizens residing in Canada. Documents such as life and maintenance certificates, marriage certificate, power of attorney, birth certificate, death certificate, and legalization of business documents.

Power of Attorney

Power of Attorney refers to a writing by which one person gives power to another, to act in his place, in the given circumstance.

Required documents:

  • Photocopy of the Congolese passport of the person who wishes to give to another individual in order to take care of his/her personal affairs;
  • Copy of the consular card ;
  • Power of Attorney form to be filled out with all required information ;
  • The fee for a power of attorney is $26

Marriage certificate

Required documents:

  • A copy of the original marriage certificate
  • Copy of the consular card
  • Attach a typed or handwritten signed letter addressed to the Chargé d'Affaires a.i requesting the establishment of a Congolese marriage certificate. The letter must include the last name, first name, address, email and phone number of the applicant.

Death certificate or authorization for repatriation of remains

Required documents:

  • A copy of the original birth certificate of the deceased or a legalized copy;
  • Proof of Congolese citizenship such as Congolese passport, Congolese national identity card or certificate of Congolese citizenship of the deceased;
  • A copy of the hospital's medical record attesting to the person's death and its cause;
  • An official letter from the Funeral Home confirming their responsibility in the administrative procedures for the repatriation of the remains;
  • A certificate from the Funeral Home stating that the remains have been embalmed in accordance with the sanitary conditions established by the Canadian Government and that the remains pose no health threat to the environment;
  • A legible copy of the Funeral Home's license responsible for the remains;
  • A handwritten and typed letter signed by the family representative in Canada, addressed to the Chargé d'Affaires a.i, requesting the issuance of a death certificate or an authorization for the repatriation of the remains;
  • An official identity document of the representative of the family of the deceased;
  • A copy of the consular card;
  • A flight reservation or a copy of the flight itinerary confirming the intention to repatriate the remains to the Republic of Congo;

Legalization of business documents

Required documents:

  • Copies of commercial documents ;
  • The fee for legalization of commercial documents is $265.

Birth certificate

Required documents:

  • A copy of the applicant's original Canadian birth certificate;
  • A copy of a Congolese birth certificate of the parents, essential document to claim Congolese citizenship;
  • A copy of the consular card of one of the parents;
  • A copy of the national identity card or Congolese passport of one of the parents;
  • A handwritten or typed and signed letter to the Chargé d'Affaires a.i requesting the establishment of a Congolese birth certificate. The letter must include your first name, address, email and phone number.

How to send

You must provide a pre-paid stamped envelope from DHL, FEDEX, UPS, PUROLATOR or CANADA POST with a tracking number so that we can return the documents.
